25 Pages. This lovely book is part of the Lace Maker New Series with lessons in two embroidery techniques, Louis XIV Embroidery and Punch Work. Louis XIV (also called Casal Guidi) Embroidery is worked on canvas using a heavier cord and background stitches to make lovely raised designs. Punched work is worked on open weave linen and is mainly worked in the background, bringing the design out from the cloth. This is a stunning technique that is masterfully shown with detailed instruction and lovely finished designs. Please note that Mme. Hadley was a Lace Maker, and not a pattern writer. Her patterns are not the easiest to follow - but her wisdom and skills are the best of her day. She was the editor of the Butterick lace making books, winner of the 1892 World's Fair lace making competition and shop owner who supplied and repaired laces for the finest families in the country.
