Carmela Testa Variety #1- Italian Cutwork & Filet Lace c.1921
back add to cart buy now

31 Pages. If you like Hedebo, cutwork, netting, drawnwork or lacemaking, the Carmela Testa books are definitely worth exploring. In this edition there are sections on Italian Cutwork, Point Lace, Point Needle Work, Knotted Cord, Netting, Filet Lace, Filet Crochet, Italian Hemstitching (and Punto Quadro), Italian Hemstitching with Clusters and Tassels. In addition to all of this, there are 15 pages of beautiful charted designs including religious symbols, several alphabets and whimsical patterns.

Carmela Testa & Company was a very small publisher within the Italian community of Boston, MA at the turn of the century. As far as I can tell, there were only 7 books in this series that were produced and they are extremely difficult to locate. The patterns alone are amazing glimpses into the ethic Italian community at the turn of the century. This book is loaded with techniques and pages of charted patterns. They are similar to the Priscilla books, which were also produced in Boston at this time.
