The yarn used is a boucle type yarn and it is fashion into utems such as gloves, a hand warmer (or muff), a basque evening jacket, a bolero jacket and the cap and shawl on the cover of the book. The designs are lovely and are depicted as lovely hand drawn models.

    17 Pages. As beautiful today as they were nearly 100 years ago, these sports wear fashions have a timeless appeal. Most of the designs are in knitting, however there are a few that are crocheted. These are fashions for the young couple on the go - there are many lovely sweater designs for both women and men. All of the womens patterns in this book are sized between size 34 and 38, and the men's items are sized 38 to 40 - this is how all pattern books from this era were written.     We often get requests for long underwear patterns, and this sweet pattern from 1887 is just perfect! The pattern is written for a size SMALL usinga sock weight or fingering weight yarn and (modern) size 4 needles. However, if you wish to make it in a larger size the instructions recommend using a heavier weight yarn such as a sport or baby weight yarn and larger needles.

    In the 1888 pattern for men's long underwear, the yarn used in the pattern was intended for a heavier weight garment. In this pattern, a slightly larger size 5 needle and a sport weight yarn are used to make the drawers. This is intended to be a lighter weight version of the earlier pattern. Also required are small buttons and a length of bias braid to be sewn at the waistband for a place to attach suspenders. The pattern could be modified to use an elastic waist band, but at the time that this pattern was written, the elastic waistband was not to be invented for another 50 years!

A beautiful design in two different sleeve variations, is sized for a Misses or Women's size 34 with instructions included to increase or decrease the size for the perfect fit. As a special bonus, this pattern is written in the 1902 format as well as a modern day format to assist in making this fashion statement of yesteryear!
